Heating and A/C repair covers the system that keeps you comfortable and keeps your windshield clear. Your heat comes from hot engine coolant flowing through the heater core behind the dash. Your cold air comes from the A/C system, where a compressor moves refrigerant through a condenser and an evaporator to pull heat and moisture out of the air. A blower motor pushes air through it all, and doors inside the dash control where that air goes and how warm it is.
A/C problems usually build gradually. A small refrigerant leak lets the system lose its charge a little at a time, and the air gets a bit warmer from week to week. Compressors, clutches and cooling fans can wear out too. Weak airflow or air that never gets truly cold are the early signs, and catching them early can keep a small repair small.
Recharging a low system without finding the leak is a temporary fix at best. If the refrigerant is low, it's leaking somewhere, and it will keep leaking. We check how the system is performing, look for the leak and confirm the cause before recommending a repair, so you're not paying for a recharge that won't last.
The A/C matters in winter too. On many vehicles, the defrost setting runs the A/C compressor to dry the air, which helps clear a fogged windshield. In a Missoula winter, a heater that blows lukewarm or a defroster that can't keep up is a safety problem, not just a comfort one. Weak heat usually traces back to low coolant, a thermostat stuck open, a clogged heater core or a blend door that isn't moving.
Some climate problems are electrical. A blower that only works on the highest setting often points to a failed blower motor resistor or control module. A clicking sound behind the dash when you change settings is often a blend door actuator. A musty smell from the vents can come from a dirty cabin air filter or moisture around the evaporator.
Once we know what's going on, we explain the repair, your options and the cost before any work starts. If it's something simple, like a cabin air filter, we'll tell you that too.
