Computer Diagnostics for Warning Lights and Running Problems In Missoula.
Computer diagnostics starts with the trouble codes, but a code tells us where to look, not what to replace. We read the data, test the part or circuit involved, then explain what we found and what it'll take to fix.
What a real diagnosis involves
Computer diagnostics is how we read what your vehicle's onboard computers have recorded and use it to track down what's actually wrong. Those computers watch dozens of sensors, from engine temperature and airflow to wheel speed and transmission shifting. When a reading falls outside what they expect, they store a trouble code and often turn on a warning light.
Here's what a lot of people don't hear: a code is a starting point, not an answer. A code for a lean condition, for example, can come from a vacuum leak, a weak fuel pump, a dirty airflow sensor or a wiring problem. Replacing the part named in the code description without testing it is how people end up paying for parts they didn't need, with the light coming right back on.
So our process goes further than plugging in a scanner. We pull the codes and the freeze frame data, which is a snapshot of conditions at the moment the fault was recorded. We look at live sensor readings with the engine running. Then we test the circuit or component the evidence points to, whether that's a sensor, a connector, a wire or a mechanical part. Only then do we recommend a repair.
Diagnostics covers a lot more than the check engine light. We use the same approach for running problems like a rough idle, hesitation, stalling or a drop in fuel economy, for electrical problems like a battery that keeps going dead or accessories that quit working, and for warning lights tied to other systems like the transmission or brakes. Tracking a fluid leak to its real source is part of this work too.
Some problems take longer to pin down than others. A fault that only shows up on a cold morning or at highway speed may need extra testing to catch it in the act. If that's the case, we'll tell you up front rather than guess.
Once we know the cause, we explain it in plain terms: what failed, why it matters, what needs to be fixed now, what can wait, and what it'll cost before any work starts. If another shop has already given you a diagnosis and a quote, we'll give you a free second opinion.
If a light came on or something doesn't feel right, give us a call or schedule a visit. It helps to tell us when the problem happens, like on cold starts, on the highway or after the engine warms up, because those details point the testing in the right direction.
Testing, not guessing
We confirm the cause with live data and hands-on testing before recommending a part. You pay to fix the problem, not to try parts until the light stays off.
Plain explanations
We tell you what we found in normal language: what failed, why it matters and what's likely to happen if you wait.
Your call on timing and cost
You'll see what's necessary now, what can wait and what each option costs before any work starts, and we'll keep you posted along the way.

Excellent Service! I took my car to them for a full transmission fluid flush and refill, brake fluid full flush and replace, and an oil change. These are Good People. They do Great Work for a Fraction of the Price the Dealership wanted to charge me. They are now my go to shop.Mike W. · Google
I’ve got both my suspension and my clutch replaced in my WRX by them, and they were super quick! Quoted me up to a week both times, but I got my car back within 2 days, both times. Really great work!!

John is a top-notch mechanic and an honest person. Instead of charging me for a lot of parts that I didn’t need, he told me he couldn’t diagnose the exact spot in my suspension that was making noise. We agreed that I would drive my car a little longer and see if it gets worse. He used suspension ears and spent a lot of time trying to diagnose my car. Many shops would’ve just told me I needed struts and would’ve charged the normal labor and mark up on parts. He might not have solved my problem but kudos to John and his team for not just throwing parts at it. I would HIGHLY recommend them if you’re looking for a trustworthy shop in the Missoula area.Tony D. · Google
